With benefits that have been enjoyed in Asia for more than five centuries, bamboo charcoal is produced from the rapidly growing moso bamboo. Taking only five years from seedling to maturity, this type of bamboo can grow two feet or more in a single day, reaching a height of 60 feet in two to three months. When the bamboo is ready for harvest, it is cut down and laid out to dry for a few weeks. Then placed it into a kiln to be cooked without oxygen at 800°C.

During the carbonization process, the charcoal develops millions of tiny, porous holes and as air passes through the pores, odour, allergens, bacteria and moisture particles are trapped on the surface, which in turn purifies the air.
